Rebates & Incentives
Stack rebates and tax credits — without buying the wrong system.
Rebates are real money, but they're easiest to lose to bad equipment selection or missing documentation. Here's how to approach them as a homeowner.
The three layers of HVAC incentives
- Utility rebates (e.g., PSE&G in New Jersey) — paid through your utility
- State-level energy programs — vary by state and program year
- Federal tax credits (25C) — reduce what you owe on your federal return
What protects your rebate
Most rebate programs require a Manual J load calculation, a qualifying piece of equipment matched to that load, and proof of installation by a participating contractor. Skip any of those and the rebate is at risk.
